Employer Evaluation of Graduate Student | |
Objective: | A 2-year college is required to validate the effectiveness of their vocational training program on a recurring basis. The validation was based upon the traditional methods of a paper survey, telephone interviews, and personal interviews to employers of the course graduates. These were expensive in both time and dollars but were an accreditation requirement for the program and student funding resources. The results were crutcial to the college's Board of Trustees approval, the college staffing efforts, and the continuation of a particular training program. The use of the traditional paper, telephone, and personal methods was not supporting the accreditation requirements. Issues of student satisfaction and employment in addition to the college faculty rotation were becoming concerns. |
Process used: | An Internet-based survey was deployed as a quick and effective way to sample the entire industry base within the college service area. With the less expense method to sample the entire industry via the Internet it was hoped that a wide evaluation database could be realized. Additionally, it was hoped that input would be received affecting the necessary changes within the program structure and current industry technology. The survey was developed with the use of demographic database linking via ODBC, validation coding, color formatting, creative table-formatting and user comment fields. |
Benefits achieved: | The survey is actively collecting the changing industry's needs. Current technology requirements are being reported and incorporated in the educational program. Instead of a bi-annual survey process, it has become a semi-annual process and the delay in providing a progress report is now available upon demand for the current semi-annual results. An additional benefit was the gathering of information on potential industrial advisors, internship locations, and staffing. The resulting data collection and report presented the current issues and training needs. |
